Kyarypamyupamyu – Invader Invader

1. Invader Invader
2. Point of view
3. Fashion Monster -extended mix-

Invader Invader is the sixth single by Japanese singer Kyarypamyupamyu, released on May 15, 2013. The title track was used as GU Japan commercial song. The B-side “Point of view” was used as the TV show AGERU TV opening theme song.

Invader Invader is a huge step away from Kyary’s usual techno music since it’s more oriented towards electro and dubstep, but it really works. I’m glad she decided to tackle something different now because some of her songs tended to sound alike in the past. One thing stays the same here: a lot of beats and quircky effects and Kyary’s own strange (but still appealing) vocals. I really like it when the music just suddenly drops into this amazing dubstep section and then resumes the slightly cuter main theme of the song. This could easily be the best A-side of the era.

At first I had to figure out where Point of view was going with its beat, but as soon as Kyary herself drops in I get the hang of it. Kyary can get a little pitchy every now and then (yes I know she usually is, but this is even pitchier than that okay). Still, there’s something about the song that makes it stand out. I guess it’s the woodwind solo halfway through the song and the fact that it has a poppier approach and not as dance oriented. The toy piano was present again though, but I thought it was pretty cute nonetheless. Catchy.

And we get a song that has another 15 seconds glued to it in the end, talking about you huge extensions *cough*. Anyway, Fashion Monster -extended mix- is a pretty convenient song on the single since it was a straight bullseye as a single. There are some slight alterations in the track but nothing major. I’ve always loved it because it’s much gritter than her other songs and another huge step away from those songs, so it fits really well on this single. Also because Nakata couldn’t help himself and he had to add another dubstep break here.
