Kyarypamyupamyu – Fashion Monster
1. Fashion Monster
2. 100% no Jibun ni
3. Tsukema Tsukeru -extended mix-
4. Pamyu Revo Medley
Fashion Monster is the third single by Japanese singer Kyarypamyupamyu, released on October 17, 2012. The title track was used as the “g.u.” commercial song. The single debuted at #5 on the Oricon Weekly Charts and has sold 42,654 copies to date.
Fugliest cover EVER, I hate green. Anyways, Fashion Monster is a Halloween song in Kyary style, so expect some little cute elements every now and then. Despite Kyary’s high pitched vocals, she contributes very well to this song which is a little grittier than her usual stuff. I remember getting used to her as I listened more of her tracks (especially on her latest studio album) but most of those tracks sounded the same in some kind of way. This A-side is so different from her earlier songs in both style and arrangement that I’m sure it will stay with me for quite some time.
100% no Jibun ni is the B-side on this single, and the A-side really set the standards a little higher so I was hoping it would be a song like Fashion Monster. It’s a little cuter than that (well, actually a lot), but it has a very nice arrangement. I totally loved the crazy kick drums and synth accents and how they worked around the cuter xylophone effects. Again, it’s a Kyary song with a lot of repetition, but in this case it’s a good thing since the song is so catchy. I feel guilty for liking this.
I remember that Tsukema Tsukeru -extended version-‘s original version was on the ‘Pamyupamyu Revolution’ album and that it was one of my favorite tracks, despite the iffy vocals. I just didn’t remember what the song was like, but it seems as if they changed a little bit of the arrangement, the introduction and, duh, the length of the song. Overall, for just an extended version it was a pretty good one to balance the single.
Ofcourse, Pamyu Revo Medley had to start with an exerpt from PONPONPON.. It’s just a 45 second track with tiny samples from her album tracks, and although it kinda took me back to some songs like said song, CANDY CANDY, Drinker and Kyary ANAN, it just felt like a promotional track. Like, a commercial without visual stuff.
Surprisingly enough, I was pretty satisfied with how Fashion Monster turned out. The A-side was pretty edgy for a Kyary song, and the gritty stuff was overpowering the cuteness for a change. The B-sides were cute songs however, but Kyary is the definition of cute. The B-side won me over with its kick drum arrangement, while the extended version of an older track took me back to the album she released last year. I have no idea why, but I LIKE THIS.
