Road to Lotus Part 1/6: Your BodyOctober 2, 2012 at 8:29 PM | Posted in Christina Aguilera | Leave a comment
For the next six weeks, tune in for your weekly dosis of Lotus: Christina Aguilera’s upcoming album! Every Tuesday, Road to Lotus will talk about a lot of different subjects related to the anticipated album: singles, album art, videos, tracklists, everything. So please bear with me on the Road to Lotus, starting with a post about the album’s first single Your Body.
“Your Body” debuted at number 33 on the Pop Songs chart on the week of September 17, 2012. “Your Body” debuted at number ten on the Billboard Hot Digital Songs chart, selling 103,000 digital copies in the week ending September 21, 2012. It became Aguilera’s first top 10 as a lead artist on the Digital Songs chart since 2008, when “Keeps Gettin’ Better” peaked at No. 5.
Your Body was released on September 17, 2012 as the lead single for the album. It received positive reviews from critics, who praised Christina’s voice and the early ’00 beats. Story Gilmore of Neon Limelight called it “smoking hot”. The review from The Guardian Express was positive, writing that “the lyrics are easy to learn and the hook is catchy as hell. It also wrote that “All in all, the track achieves what it’s set to do: show off Christina’s vocal talent pairing it with Martin’s catchy beats ensuring that it will be a club anthem for a few months.” Jason Lipshut of Billboard saw it is “not as sexually demonstrative as, “Dirrty,” but it is a new suggestive anthem for a self-proclaimed ‘freak’.”
Your Body is not a typical Christina Aguilera uptempo pop song, it draws a lot of inspiration from contemporary R&B, eletronica and even some dubstep. This blend creates an amazing vibe that’s completely new to all the fans that have stayed with her since the start of it all. She did continue to put her own personality all over the track, from the slightly shocking concept and lyrics to her amazing belting in the chorus when she sings ‘All I wanna do is love your body / […] Tonight’s your lucky night, I know you want it‘. The tempo of the song is relatively relaxed and mellow yet it still has a lot of potential to be the next electronica club hit this fall. Overall, I love this new sound Christina is trying for this song and I’d love to hear more tracks like this from her.
Enjoy the amazing pop-art inspired video for Your Body!
