Hot Stuff feat. KM-MARKIT is the fifteenth single by Japanese singer Koda Kumi, released on April 13, 2005. The single reached #10 on Oricon charts and charted for 6 weeks. It sold 16,807 units in it’s first week and the most recent figures show that it sold a total of 29,509 units.
Why the hell would Kumi choose Hot Stuff feat. KM-MARKIT as the re-cut single from the ‘secret’ era…? I really don’t like KM-MARKIT, he has terrible vocals and sounds just very uninteresting to me. I always said that if Kuu ever decides to make a solo version (which she won’t..) I would probably like it, but for now KM-MARKIT is like pigeon poo on the window of an amazingly energetic track. Kuu proved herself. He didn’t.
Hot Stuff ~確変無想転生 Remix feat. UZI & KM-MARKIT~ was pretty shocking after the previous hiphop influenced track.. It’s hard rock. Yes. I must say the idea of mixing hiphop with hard rock is pretty good and original, if it wasn’t that now both KM-MARKIT and UZI are terrible… Again, just ditch ’em and this would’ve been great. I think the concept really works so okay… I’m gonna give both versions some points. But they’re not for the rappers, FYI.
Trust You ~Dub’s Trust me Remix~ couldn’t be more different from its original, leaving the heavier R&B sound and taking on a dance sound with a lot of various synth sounds. It’s quite a bummer they kicked that lovely original sound out to the curb because I loved it, but Dub finally created one of his better remixes (some of his remixes for Ayu were downright crap). The ~Anata dake, anata dake, anata dake~ chanting in the beginning started to annoy me, but the mix that followed was pretty enjoyable after all.
Another favorite of mine off the album got remixed on this single, Selfish ~D.I’s C&B MIX~. I still believe the original should’ve been an A-side instead of Hot Stuff, but oh well. Just like the fact they threw out the original sound in the previous remix and turned it 180, so is the case with this mix but here it just doesn’t work. A rock song shouldn’t get an R&B mix, and definitely one that doesn’t flow well at all. No, don’t like this.
Hot Stuff feat. KM-MARKIT should’ve never been released, at least not the A-side and not with KM-MARKIT either now we’re talking about the cons. He was the biggest con of all, I hate the guy. Ugh. The rock remix had its charm if it weren’t for the guys, I thought the arrangement was pretty original. Out of the other remixes, the one for Trust you was the best. Selfish just doesn’t work as an R&B song.
