SINGLE REVIEW
Koda Kumi – Crazy 4 U

1. Crazy 4 U
2. 夢 With You
3. Crazy 4 U (Akakage’s crazy love Remix)
4. Crazy 4 U (Instrumental)
5. 夢 With You (Instrumental)

Crazy 4 U is the tenth single by Japanese singer Koda Kumi, released on January 15, 2004. The single reached #12 on the Oricon charts and charted for 6 weeks. This single sold 11,919 units in it’s first week and the most recent figures show that it has sold a total of 28,272 units.

I like the bass line openingCrazy 4 U, and since this single is the first to illustrate her ‘ero-kakkoi’ image it’s made very clear throughout the song. It has an extremely groovy and sexy sound to it and Kumi’s vocals are superb. The song is very uplifting and poppy, one of the best from this era.

I don’t like most of 夢 With You at all, except for the chorus then perhaps. It has a nice urban flow but it’s extremely boring tbh, not even Kuu’s vocals could save this one.

Crazy 4 U (Akakage’s crazy love Remix) features some major problems as well. By featuring the backing vocals’ adlibbing you get the idea of vocals singing out of key, Kuu’s main vocals are overly vocoded and sometimes the thing just doesn’t flow right. No, I prefer the original.

Crazy 4 U is a bit of a messy single, I only like the A-side and that’s where it stops. The B-side wasn’t enjoyable (and memorable) at all, and the remix.. I don’t even wanna talk about it, this is such a shame if you ask me. Conclusion: this is one strange era, let’s see where the album takes us.
