LOVE.IT is the debut mini-album by the fictional female bunny singer LOVE, created by Japanese singer Ai Otsuka. It was released on November 18, 2009 under the label Avex Trax, and was released only one week after the release of Otsuka’s compilation album Love Is Best.
Okay so… here we go I guess. I still think Ai Otsuka’s voice is very child-like, even for a Japanese. Oh wait, I should talk about ‘LOVE’ now, instead of Otsuka. MAGIC is the first song on this mini-album, and the music is actually very enjoyable. It’s a bit of a pop/dance track, not too much, but still it’s catchy in it’s own way. LOVE doesn’t sing much, but when she does, her voice is altered by a vocoder, and the result actually sounds very cute. So alright, I think I can forget about the child-like elements and just focus on the cuteness, it’s good, oh my gosh.
STARLIGHT is another cute synthpop song, so don’t listen to this album if you don’t like happy songs! Wow, this is actually extremely catchy, even catchier than the previous song! When I listen to this song, I see a green field before me with flowers and bunnies all over, so this really takes me away to some place unknown.
The heavy bass in MOONLIGHT was a complete surprise, and this can actually be seen as more of an instrumental song since it focuses more on music and LOVE’s voice is very soft. The part where she goes up and down with her notes is very funny, randomness all over but very cute. It’s an interesting song indeed, because it’s a bit different from the previous two, yet still it has that electropop tune to it.
RED EYE is a slower paced song, still with LOVE’s voice altered, which I think is part of her image. This is less cosmic than the other songs, but still it’s decent and the piano was a nice addition this time. It’s not something very special, but I can still listen to this because it’s arranged nicely.
Gosh, back to the hyperness with White choco, which is such a lively track! It makes me all hyperactive and such, so it’s really a wake up call after RED EYE. This is the only track so far to feature an electric guitar, which is lovely because I’m fond of guitars, and the bells in the chorus are very funny as well. But I’m feeling kinda bored after all these songs that actually quite sound alike.
LOVEのテーマ. Gosh, I’m bored. I mean, it’s good, I admit it, but this doesn’t change anything in terms of musical arrangements! Cute, especially when listened to individually, but this doesn’t bother me at all. ¬¬
So yeah, this was a nice change overall in my daily music list…? Why would anyone make a rabbit as an alter ego and let that rabbit sing an entire EP filled with overly cute synthpop songs?? I still don’t get it, just go with the flow, Ai Otsuka, what do you think Christina Aguilera always does? Exactly, not being afraid to change her musical style. Not to promote Xtina here, but Otsuka could learn from that. What else? Right, she must learn to make each song unique. I can listen to these songs individually, but all in a row? I think I’ll pass.
